One of India's wealthiest and most influential businessmen Gautam Adani wasn't wealthy at first, though. He started everything from scratch, day by day, step by step.

Humble Beginnings

Gautam Adani was born on 24 June 1962 in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father was a simple textile trader. The family had just bare minimum to survive. But Gautam had one strong quality — a fire to do something big.

Mumbai First Steps

When he was 18, he moved to Mumbai, the “City of Dreams”. He started working for a diamond sorting business. It was a modest position with a below average income. But this taught him loads of experiences, helped him in acquiring the skill to deal with people.

With these experiences he soon launched his own modest diamond sorting business. Clubbing experience with art man ship he generated a profit and later went back to Ahmedabad. That was the first little success.

Starting his own company.

In 1988, he founded Adani Exports, now called Adani Enterprises. He began by trading commodities such as food and power. Slowly, his business expanded.

But the true turning point was about to occur.

A Big Dream - Mundra Port.

In the 1990s, something unique happened. The Indian government started providing tenders to private enterprises for building ports. Not many could look through this opportunity. Businesses thought it was too risky.

However, through Gautam Adani’s lenses, it was a tremendous opportunity. He strived hard to get this opportunity and eventually he was granted permission to establish a port in Mundra, Gujarat. This place had very few resources. People mocked his decision. But Gautam believed. He worked as hard as a human could with a single pointed attention, not marred by distractions and mockery. Time tested his patience. People tested his willpower. But he believed in his dreams and over the years he created Mundra Port, which is today India's largest private port. This port created thousands of jobs. 

It was a signal from the universe that Gautam Adani had arrived.

Building an Empire

After that, Gautam expanded into many areas: Energy, Coal, Airports, Logistics, Agriculture, Defense and Digital Technology

He even owns companies in Australia, Indonesia, and other countries. His business is truly global.

Going Green: Energy's Future

Realising the environmental need for clean energy, his company moved from coal and conventional power to renewable energy sources like wind and solar. 

He believes that India should be a global power in clean energy.  His goal is to create Adani Group, the world's biggest provider of renewable energy.

A Man of Strength and Simplicity

Despite being one of the wealthiest men, a true asset for the nation, a godfather for a million employed in his businesses, Gautam Adani leads a modest life. He is married to Priti Adani, a physician and social worker.

You won't see him much speaking to the media or holding interviews. He lets his work speak for him.  

When there was a terrorist attack on the Taj Hotel in 2008, coincidently, Gautam Adani was a guest at the hotel. After he survived that tragic attack, he developed more appreciation towards life and became even more humble.   

The Adani Foundation's Giving Back

Gautam Adani believes that life should be lived with purpose. Through the Adani Foundation, his business provides funding for: Education, Medical care, Empowerment of women, Development in rural areas

During Covid 19, they provided thousands of people with food, air, and cash. When the country needed assistance, his business stood its ground.

Overcoming Obstacles with Bravery

In the year 2023, after the Hindenburg Report, his business encountered setbacks. He was questioned. His policies were on the radar. He was accused of wrongdoings. The market sentiment shifted away from Adani Businesses. His stocks collapsed and markets tumbled. 

The willpower of a man is tested during these times. 

Gautam Adani did not panic. He displayed resilience. Things got better gradually. This demonstrated his leadership and mental toughness.
