Palki Sharma Steps Down as Managing Editor of Firstpost After Three Years

New Delhi: Senior journalist and television anchor Palki Sharma Upadhyay has stepped down from her role as Managing Editor of Firstpost, marking the end of her nearly three-year-long association with the Network18-owned digital news platform. The development was confirmed through internal communication within the network.

Palki Sharma, one of India’s most recognised faces in English news journalism, joined Firstpost in September 2022. During her tenure, she played a crucial role in reshaping the platform’s editorial identity and expanding its global news footprint. She also launched and anchored the flagship show “Vantage with Palki Sharma,” which gained a strong following for its sharp analysis of international affairs from an Indian perspective.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Sharma will continue to remain associated with Firstpost until March 2026 to ensure a smooth transition and handover of responsibilities. Her departure comes as part of a planned move, with the journalist now expected to explore new professional and entrepreneurial opportunities, including the possibility of launching her own independent media venture.

In an internal note, Network18’s editorial leadership acknowledged Sharma’s contribution, crediting her for strengthening Firstpost’s credibility in global news coverage and building a distinctive voice for the platform. During her stint, Firstpost significantly expanded its international reporting, opinion-led content, and digital audience reach.

Before joining Firstpost, Palki Sharma served as Managing Editor at WION, where she anchored the widely watched show “Gravitas.” Her coverage of global geopolitics, particularly during the Russia–Ukraine war, earned international attention and positioned her as one of India’s most influential global news commentators. Prior to WION, she worked with CNN-News18, Doordarshan, and Hindustan Times, bringing over two decades of experience to the newsroom.

Following her exit, Binoy Prabhakar has been appointed as Chief Content Officer at Firstpost, and will oversee the platform’s editorial strategy going forward.

While Sharma has not yet made a public announcement detailing her next move, industry observers expect her to remain active in the media space, given her strong personal brand and global following.

Her exit marks a significant transition for Firstpost and signals another chapter in the evolving career of one of India’s most prominent English news anchors.
