Zypp: Making Urban Deliveries 100% Electric

From Start-Up to Sustainability: How Zypp is Transforming Urban Mobility

If you live in India's cities, chances are that you would have seen a Zypp Electric scooter zipping in and out of traffic with deliveries of groceries, food, or online orders. These green, silent two-wheelers contribute to a bigger mission — to clean up the air, reduce fuel consumption, and enhance sustainability in our cities.

Let us  look at how this start-up is doing a big thing for the future of India.

Simple Beginnings, Big Dreams

In 2017,  Zypp Electric was founded by Akash Gupta and Rashi Agarwal. Tushar Mehta became a co-founder in 2022, bringing his expertise to help scale the company's operations and drive growth. Their mindset was crystal clear: "Let’s make delivery services green."

They observed: Whenever you ordered food, groceries, or anything online, it probably reached you on a petrol bike. More smoke into the air, more noise on the roads!

Akash said: "We wanted to build something that makes a real difference. Pollution is real, and it’s getting worse. We knew electric vehicles (EVs) could help."

From One Scooter to Thousands

After a few electric scooters were rented, today Zypp boasts over 15,000 electric two-wheelers across Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. These are used mostly for last-mile delivery — i.e. short trips from the warehouse to your home.

And they're working with most brands that you recognize: Zomato, Swiggy, Amazon, Blinkit, Zepto and BigBasket

All trying to lower their carbon footprints — and Zypp is helping them along the way.

Green" Deliveries, Real Results

So far, over 25 million deliveries have been done using electric vehicles, reducing harmful emissions. Zypp has prevented almost 35 million kilos of CO₂ from entering the atmosphere, equivalent to growing 1.5 million trees. Furthermore, thousands of delivery riders who use Zypp scooters save a lot of money each month by not paying for pricey fuel. This translates to more money in their pockets and a better environment for everybody.

Rashi Agarwal: "We are not just transferring packages. We are transferring the conception of a better future. Every ride on a Zypp bike is one less ride polluting the air."

Tech + Transport = Smart Mobility

These are not just regular scooters, Zypp's are smart ones. They have: GPS tracking, Battery monitoring, Remote lock/unlock, Route optimization

This all helps the riders deliver faster and safer. Also, the scooters send notifications of low battery levels or something that needs fixing; great help for delivery workers who have to use it every day.

And the best part is, the workers can rent the scooters per day; free charging, repair, and roadside help come with that.

From a delivery rider, "I save ₹4,000–₹5,000 every month on fuel. Plus, the scooter is easy to ride and maintain."

Not Always a Smooth Ride

As with any new concept, a few hurdles had to be crossed by Zypp:

Fewer charging kiosks, Battery issues on long-hour shifts, People somehow not rationalizing a changeover from petrol to electric

Yet, the team survived. With continued support from EV-promoting government schemes like FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles), Zypp has been able to flourish.

Akash says, "We believed in the mission. Once people saw the savings and the ease, they joined us."

More Than Business-A Movement

Zypp is not just building a company; it is building a community.

Awareness programs for EVs, green drives, and training sessions for riders were initiated by them. They closely work with local governments to ensure EV-friendly cities.

"We want every city in India to go electric for deliveries," says Rashi. "Imagine how clean and quiet our streets would be!"

Going Forward!!

The future of Zypp appears to be bright:

Further plans include 100,000 electric vehicles by 2026, Expansion across new cities in India, Three-wheeler EVs for larger deliveries, The deployment of AI tools for even better fleet management. They are also searching for international footprints.

They have plans for solar-powered charging and for new battery technologies.

Concluding Thoughts

Zypp began as a small idea, but it is turning into a potential-movement that can alter India's mobility.

One delivery at a time, one scooter at a time, Zypp is proving that one can make a viable business and also save the planet.

As Akash says, "It is not just about going electric. It is about going smart, clean, and future-ready."
